Find the right size

We size by dachshund type and weight, not by tape measure. Measuring a wriggly dachshund is surprisingly tricky, and in our experience that's where most sizing mistakes happen. Type and weight are far more reliable.

Step 1Find your dachshund type

Step 2Pick the size that matches the weight

Step 3Optional: check the back length

Dachshund type	Weight	Size
Puppy / very small Kaninchen dachshundBack length*approx. 30 cm · 11.8″	1.5–3.5 kg3.3–7.7 lbs	30
Kaninchen dachshundBack length*approx. 33–35 cm · 13–13.8″	3.3–3.9 kg7.3–8.6 lbs	35 S
MiniatureBack length*approx. 35 cm · 13.8″	4–5.5 kg8.8–12.1 lbs	35 M
Tweenie*Back lengthapprox. 38 cm · 15″	4.5–5.4 kg9.9–12 lbsslim Tweenie	38 S
	5.5–7 kg12.1–15.4 lbsTweenie	38 M
	7.1–9.5 kg15.6–21 lbsa shorter Standard	38 L
StandardBack length*approx. 42 cm · 16.5″	7.5–8.5 kg16.5–18.7 lbsslim Standard	40 S
	8.5–10 kg18.7–22 lbsStandard	40 M
	10–12 kg21–26 lbsStandard with strong chest	40 L
XL Standard – very largeBack length*approx. 48 cm · 18.9″	12 kg +26+ lbs	48 XL

48 XL is NOT for a regular Standard dachshund, even if you think your dog is very long. Please check the weight (12 kg / 26 lbs and up, up to approx. 15 kg). This size is for rare, very large dachshunds, mostly used for hunting.

What S, M and L mean

Sfor tender and slim dachshunds. Mostly female and juvenile dachshunds fit this size.

Mfor the average dachshund. This size is generally the most common. If your dachshund is in a fit and normal shape, this is for him or her.

Lfor a stronger physique. Some dachshunds have a stronger developed chest and shoulder area. Some have a bit more of a belly or are maybe pregnant.

Separate chart

All parkas & softshell coats with covered chest

This chart applies to every parka and to all softshell coats that cover chest and belly (e.g. Botero and Munch). Same logic: find your type, then check the weight.

Dachshund type	Weight	Size
Kaninchen dachshund + puppiesBack length*approx. 30–35 cm · 11.8–13.8″	2.8–3.9 kg6–8.6 lbs	35 S
MiniatureBack length*approx. 35 cm · 13.8″	4–6 kg8.8–13.2 lbs	35 M
TweenieBack length*approx. 38 cm · 15″	6.1–8.9 kg13.4–19.6 lbs	38
StandardBack length*approx. 42 cm · 16.5″	9–11 kg19.8–24 lbs	40

Back length: optional check

*Measure with your dog standing on all four paws, from the lower edge of the collar (neck point) to the base of the tail. All back lengths are approximate; the number in the size name is a rough guide.

**Tweenies sit between Miniature and Standard. In the US 'Tweenie' is used for a Miniature and Standard cross, but sometimes a Miniature simply turns out a bit longer, or a Standard a bit shorter than average.

Adjustable fit

Chest and belly straps close with velcro. Depending on the coat size they can be adjusted by 3–5 cm on the chest and 5–8 cm on the belly.
